I was reading the local paper, Richmond Times Dispatch, yesterday, August 29, 2021, and much to my surprise there there was a 1/2 page article commemorating the 50th anniversary since the release of this album, (actual anniversary was November 2020) His son Dhani has remastered the album, including a lot of extras; acoustic renditions not previously heard, notes, photos and memorabilia included. I imagine the cost will be more than most fans can afford, including myself, but I’ll just have to wait and see. Capital/UMe has also remixed the album for the 50th anniversary. “All Things Must Pass” was groundbreaking in that it was the first triple studio album in rock history. As a side note, “The Concert for Bangladesh” was the first concert for a charitable cause, to be followed by many more.
This album effects my soul. I get the chills listening to it. I feel so deeply when he sings, “Isn’t it a Pity,” “Let it Down,” “Beware of Darkness,” “All Things Must Pass,” and “Wah-Wah.” (Two of these songs are on my funeral playlist) All of the songs are typical of George and his future solo works. A mix of spiritual, truthful laments on life and the world accompanied by a wicked sense of humor. The cover photo shot gets my heart pumping. His beautiful long hair surrounded by the garden gnomes, (my gnome is named George as a tribute to him, see my post under Gnomes in the Gardening Subject) The poster insert, George all dressed in black, like a preacher in front of leaded glass, like a church. That is my take, it is kind of scary to me. It hangs in my office next to a poster of John Lennon, One to One concert at Madison Square Garden.
I think I’ll go listen to it right now
