Anarchy in the Capital

So much for nothing new! Yesterday I volunteered in the garden shop until 2:00 and then brought my husband to Ford to pick up his truck. I got home around 3:15. I was waiting for this day to be over because congress was counting the electoral votes, a normally routine job, and the sitting Vice President, Pence, had to call the election. The facts all led to Pence announcing that Joe Biden won the election. Pence was defying his boss and following the constitution in his duties.

Trump tried to bully him, believing falsely that Pence could change the election. He had his followers believing it too. He had previously bullied officials from the electoral states that he lost. He saw this as his last ditch effort to change the election results.

Mr. Trump had other plans. He had called for his followers to come to Washington on Wednesday, this day, to protest this democratic procedure. He stated that it would be “wild.” The protest drew thousands of his supporters. During the protest he made a speech, again stating that it was a fraudulent election and that he had won. He urged the protesters to march to the capital with him and to “never give up fighting.” He did not march with them. During this speech, Rudolph Giuliani also came up to the microphone to state that the protesters violently rioting were “on the right side of the law.” He also said there should be a “trial by combat.”

I came home and made my lunch and and sat down to watch my shows, (Young and the Restless, and The Bold and the Beautiful) Surprise, what I saw were protesters, carrying American flags, Trump flags, and confederate flags storming the White House. I continued to watch as they broke windows, entered the House of Represenative’s where 1/2 hour before these proceedings were being carried out.

I couldn’t believe they had gotten that far!. This was like watching a third world country. This doesn’t happen here in the USA. I couldn’t believe they had to call in police from Northern Virginia and Baltimore. The FBI was brought in as well as the National Guard. The Capital Police were outnumbered. A woman protester got shot and died. I watched this whole thing unfold before my eyes as I had watched on 9/11 the planes fly into the world trade center.

The blame is solely on the shoulders of President Trump. Politicians from both sides, his aides, and political allies were begging him to come on the air and stop this from continuing. The President elect, Joe Biden came on and made a speech. He also challenged Trump to make this right. Finally Trump made a video in which he continued to say how he won by a great majority and how fraudulent the election was and that he loved them all, (the protesters) and to go home. WHAT????? This is all he could say.

Finally some of his enablers started to break from him. This was too much. They had gone along with “let Trump be Trump,” and this is where it led. We all saw it coming.
