Last week I was invited to my friend Stevie’s home and we planned on making some beeswax covers. We only needed three ingredients and they were fairly easy to make. The ingredients were: beeswax chips, pine resin and jojoba oil.
We started with all cotton fabric, cutting different sizes with pinking shears, so not to fray. Preheat oven to 200, line cookie sheets with parchment paper. Put the cut fabric on the parchment paper. There are two ways to make these:
#1 – Sprinkle beeswax pellets all over fabric, make sure their spread outwards towards edges. Place in oven for up to five minutes. Remove and cover with another piece of parchment paper. Iron on low setting to spread out pellets that aren’t fully melted. Make sure to press iron out towards the edges. Lift off cookie sheet and wave up and down. They dry quickly. Put aside and continue with next piece of fabric. Can reuse the parchment paper.
#2 – The preparation is the same. This time apply the beeswax then sprinkle with pine resin, (no measured amount). Last, add a few drops of jojoba oil in different places. Put in the oven, (same temperature, and time). Remove, cover with parchment paper, iron and finish the same way.
We both agreed that we preferred the second option. We felt the wrap was a bit stronger. That being said, the one with just the beeswax worked fine.
