I don’t remember when I joined Facebook, but I know I joined to be able to see friends and relatives that I didn’t see often. It got me closer to one of my cousins and kept me informed of what was going on in their lives. I got to see and hear about their grandchildren. Like everyone else I posted about all the good that was going on in my life, pictures of us in Hawaii, my kids, The Beatles, concerts I went to, etc.
Then came the year of 2016. Donald Trump decided to run for president, (if noticed in my political thoughts) I don’t ever like to say his name. At that time I saw friends, some previous best friends, acquaintances, my kids friends, and even family, (one cousin) and all of Pete’s family, post praising him. These people started believing all his bullshit! I thought, “it’s so easy to fact check,” why weren’t any of them doing that? It was at this point that I decided to get off of Facebook. I didn’t want to see what they were posting. There were women, (good friends) that I know had abortions, some several, were also victims of sexual abuse, and yet they all voted for him. What hypocrites!! I was getting too upset and losing respect for a lot of these people.
Then came the following election, where Joe Biden won. The absolute worse was the January 6 takeover of the White House. The falsehood of the idiot winning, (which to this day he insists). I was again glad that I wasn’t on Facebook, it was a relief.
Then about two months ago I wanted to sell some things and Facebook Marketplace was the place to do that. I would still get emails from my old AOL address telling me to check out what friends of mine had posted. I ignored them. Then one day while looking through Marketplace I decided to see what was on my feed. The same people, less politics. I like seeing my one of my friends from high school, Patti, posts. She is very involved in animal, dog rescue, she pulls no punches when it comes to Trump, no matter the backlash she receives. She is a lot tougher than me! Another previous best friend posting filtered pictures of herself, looking like she’s 20, and praising her husband and family. I know her husband used to beat her and her kids treat her horrible. She is one that I cut out, she’s very high maintenance, and continues playing the victim.
Then I made the mistake of liking a couple of posts against Trump, of course then I got inundated with anti-Trump stuff. The first time in almost 10 years that I decided to post, I put up two anti-idiot posts. I’m sorry only in the sense that now people know I’m back.
I only look maybe once a week. There are so many groups to follow, crafts, Beatles, George, John, Paul and Ringo, dogs, Led Zeppelin, Robert Plant, lots and lots of my interests. Holy shit, if I followed them I would constantly be on Facebook. I don’t want that.
