Immigration

I heard on the news that in the past year 2 million immigrants have entered our country. They have nowhere to go, no food, no clothes, no homes. I understand they come here in hopes of a better life but I feel immigration is out of control. This has been a problem for over 20 years. No administration has dealt with it in any significant way. Everyone agrees that is one of the major problems facing our country but no one has any solutions or ideas on how to fix this broken system.

I don’t think it is fair that us as taxpayers have to step up and provide all that they need. I worked for the state of Florida when Cuba emptied their prisons and mental hospitals and there was a huge influx of Cubans into Miami. I was 22 years old at the time. There was a call throughout state offices for anyone who can speak Spanish to come to Miami and help. They were taken right off the boats and put into our social service systems. At that time I thought it was wrong and I still do.

In the beginning of Biden’s administration, I understood that vice president Kamala Harris was put in charge of immigration. I don’t think she has done a damn thing. We go from shutting down our borders to all immigrants and building walls to no border control at all. Both extremes. In a relatively new movement, the Republican governors of the states that have the largest influx of immigrants are hiring buses and planes, loading them up with immigrants and sending them North. They are dropped off in Washington DC, New York city, Boston, and Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts. I don’t blame them. I rarely agree with with the Republicans, (Trump Republicans) but I do agree with this move. Let other cities face what they are facing.

This is why I am a registered Independent.

My grandparents immigrated from Italy in the early 1900’s, along with millions of Europeans. As I understand it there was some type of quota and they had to wait for their turn. For lack of anything else, couldn’t we go back to that?
