I’ve mentioned before how afraid I am for the state of unrest here in the USA. Now we have “Putin’s War.” The images coming from Ukraine are horrible. Families being separated, homes and schools being bombed. It is encouraging to see the Ukrainian people fighting for their freedom, their president right there with his people. A very sad time.
I am amazed and appalled that one person can start a war! No one person should have that kind of power! The people of Russia are protesting and getting arrested. Putin has stopped all social media and news of any type, beyond his power and his claims to be aired in Russia. He alleges anything else is “fake news,” (thank you Trump). The world is against him, (except for fellow despots) and this invasion.
I have some mixed emotions. I have always felt and stated before that we should not be the policemen of the world. Yet I feel strongly that we should help. I am all for the sanctions placed on Russia and I feel that we should stop receiving shipments of Russian oil. Yet everyone her in the US doesn’t want gas prices to rise any further. If we stopped the flow of Russian oil we must accept the fact that prices will get higher.
I don’t think we should send fighter planes over there. I don’t want World War III to start. We have been the most fortunate country in the world never to have bombs destroying our homes and infrastructures, killing innocent people. This war could possibly escalate to that happening.
More mixed feelings: I appreciate the welcoming of the displaced Ukrainians to Poland and surrounding countries.. I feel great compassion for the Afghan refugees trying to leave their country, women, children, allies within that helped us, they are not being welcomed with open arms and that is not only unfair but just not right. Selective compassion
