iPods, CD’s, Cassettes, 8-tracks, albums and 45’s

My first record was a 45, “Hello Goodbye” on one side and “I am the Walrus” by the Beatles on side 2. My first album, (33 1/3) was “Sgt. Pepper”. No surprise there. During my high school years I never bought any albums except by The Beatles and never played any record in my room except The BeatlesI From albums to 8 track tapes, (oh God I’m old). The use of them was strictly for use in whatever vehicle I was in. I did have Led Zeppelin, the first album and “Physical Graffiti,” Pink Floyd, “The Darkside of the Moon” and The Rolling Stones, “Goats Head Soup.” After that came cassettes. I had a lot of them, and then later CD’s, which I still have.

Along came the iPod and I had gotten one as a gift a long time ago and proceeded to load all of my favorite songs. At the time I loaded from my existing CD’s and also bought songs from the imusic store? (don’t know if that’s right, been a long time). One thing I loved was that if I heard a song on the radio and didn’t own it, I would go on Shazam and they would say the name of the song and give me the option to buy it right then, and go right on my playlist.

I made different playlists, one for Christmas songs and one for my music. Unfortunately I had trouble operating the controls on the iPod, still do, and it frustrates the hell out of me! This last trip of my kids, (in their 40’s) I had my daughter put it on mixed songs. It was in alphabetical order and played the Christmas songs with my songs and I would just skip over the Christmas songs when they came on.

Anyway I love listening to my iPod. The songs bring me right back to where I was at the time. So many fun memories. Quite a lot of the songs remind me of past relationships such as:

Greg Allman, “I’m no Angel”, The Scorpions, “Still Loving You” – my ex-husband

Sheryl Crow, “My Favorite Mistake”, – bad boy biker lover John

Aerosmith, “What it Takes,” – lover from work, Bobby

Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, “I Love Rock’n Roll,” a particular night out

Nazareth, “Love Hurts,” – an anthem for tough breakups

Robert Plant, “Tall Cool One,” – fun lover Jim
