Today during my MRI they played YouTube radio, classic rock. The first song was Rod Stewart, “Maggie May,” (I did not name my dog after this song, her name was Maggie Mae, (from what else, a Beatles song). Anyway I love this song, it brings me back to middle school, no specific memory. I am a big fan of Rod Stewart and the Faces. His song, “Tonight’s the Night,” and “Hot Legs,” brought me back to when I first ran away with who would become my 1st husband, B, the father of my kids. He used to sing “Hot Legs” to me. We stayed in a trailer on his aunts property in the Outer Banks, it was near Camp Legeune. I would like to see him in concert. I did have a greatest hits album, I think fondly of “Mod Rod.”
Next was Aerosmith. Total favorite. “Dream On” was my high school years. I love everything they do. Lead guitarist, Joe Perry and singer Steven Tyler are a dynamic duo in my book. I have too many memories associated with a lot of their songs. “What it Takes,” an all time favorite reminds me of a love affair with B, who worked in the maintenance department where I worked for 10 years. Wonderful chemistry. Their version of “Come Together” rocks. I never like other bands covering The Beatles, big exception this time! I love him more for being a rabid Beatle fan and representing them during The Kennedy Center Honors. Seeing Aerosmith or even just Steven Tyler in concert is on my bucket list. I hope they go back to Vegas, I’ll go. For someone who doesn’t gamble, music calls me to Vegas for the 2nd time, first time being The Beatles, “Love,” of course.
Third song was Led Zeppelin, “Rock ‘n Roll.” No explanations needed, too many songs, lifetime of memories. If I were to rate in terms of my favorite groups, they come in 2nd.
Next came Joe Walsh, ” A Life of Illusion.” I like this song. He’s making fun of himself and fame, the music is great and it’s funny! Elton John, “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road,” very classic, I love a lot of his songs, how can you not? I remember in high school my friend went to see him in concert and that was the one that John Lennon came out and they performed together. I was so jealous at the time. Who would have know that that would have happened! He’s also Sean Lennon’s godfather. I also won tickets to see him, here in Richmond. Very good concert. I appreciate him as a musician, It wouldn’t occur to me to buy tickets to see him in concert. Honestly I don’t have a very big list of people I’d like to see. Next, Lynyrd Skynyrd, “Sweet Home Alabama.” I’m over this I did buy tickets to see them here at a great outdoor venue. Of course it wasn’t the original band, it’s what’s been touring for years now. The songs familiar and “Freebird,” will always remind me of 1st husband, B, who claimed this was his song. Again when we first took off together, later on as we made our way to Florida.
It ended with The Who, whom I never liked. I just never did. I won tickets to see them in NY and gave them to my son. He’s seen them at least 3 times. I can’t pinpoint why I dislike them, don’t care enough to figure it out.
Well that is eight of the artists I heard, which only covers 40 minutes. So I’m missing four songs, oh well
