Last weekend we made a quick trip to Sparta, New Jersey for Pete’s nephew John’s wedding. We left Friday morning at 9:30 and got there around 4:30. I hate that drive. Luckily I was able to read. The rehearsal dinner was at 5 and left us little time to get ready. The whole family was booked at a bed and breakfast, The Ampersand. We had the handicapped room, which was very small. Beautiful place with delicious home made breakfasts.
The following day, Saturday, was the wedding. The bus was leaving the B&B at 1:00. The church service was at 2pm. From there we went to the golf club where the reception was held for pictures. We were in two pictures of the Puszcz family and wedding party. I wanted to stand and not be in the wheelchair. Pete was very impatient trying to hurry me with no thought of me, only that we had to hurry and not hold up the picture. I was so pissed off. The second picture I stayed in the wheelchair so I wouldn’t have to go through that again!
The cocktail hour was very nice with so much good food that you didn’t have to have dinner at the reception. They had a live quartet which played for the cocktail hour. The reception followed with my absolute favorite, a live band! They were great and playing really good songs. I was coming back from the ladies room and Ann, the grooms mother and my sister-in-law, grabbed me by the hand to dance with her group. I did! I didn’t plan on “dancing” in the wheelchair but I joined in and I’m glad I did. I started to go back to the table and my other sister-in-law (Pete’s sister) Jan also took my hand and they just so happened to play The Beatles, “Twist and Shout,” so I continued to dance.
That was a lot of fun and I’m glad I wasn’t insecure about it. I am usually so self conscious and afraid everyone’s staring. I also feel that since I can’t dance like I used to, that I looked ridiculous moving my arms and torso. I just didn’t care and that felt good.
Like recent weddings, the last couple of hours turned into dance music and what was odd is there were people in the middle dancing and everyone else was standing around just swaying, not really dancing. It was like being in a club, years ago. It was annoying because I enjoy watching people dance. John, the groom actually split his pants!
The reception ended at 11, six hours, and I was ready. The thing with taking the bus was you couldn’t leave early. Anyway the bus was filled with drunken youth, quite amusing. The following morning we ate breakfast and left. Pete’s mom was driving back with us and staying until Tuesday when Jan and Joey would pick her up and head back to their home in Wilmington. I sat in the back and read so I didn’t have to watch Pete’s driving, (he is such an aggressive driver).
