All of the Lilies throughout my yard were here when we moved in. This is one perennial that I will not incorporate in any future garden beds. They are too much maintenance. I decided not to plant certain perennials that required extra work. Lilies are very messy except when blooming and you have to clean up all the dead from underneath plus the spent flower stems.
I planted the Coneflowers. This is one of my favorites and I will always include in any future beds. I leave the dead blooms all winter to supply food for the birds. In early spring I cut down remaining spent blooms and save any seeds to give away or plant somewhere else.
The Calla Lilies were given to me by my friend Stevie. These are new to me, (3rd year) and I enjoy them. Very little maintenance and I’ve used the cut flowers.
I bought The Red Hot Pokers from the garden plant sale two years ago. I love this plant. The flowers are so different and continually bloom. Low maintenance, just cleaning up in the early spring.
