The past two weeks I have spent going to the doctors appointments that I had to reschedule due to traveling. My first one was to the Endocrinologist to check in and have blood work done. It came back that my Vitamin D levels were down so he told me to double the dose, (from 3000 iu’s to 6000). I admit that I haven’t taken these vitamins as much as I should. They have to be taken with food and I always forget. I keep them on the counter so I can remember but I still forget. The next week I had to go to an infusion center for my six month shot of Prolia, (for osteoporosis). I used to get it in the doctors office but this insurance wants you to go to an infusion center. They also won’t pay for the original Prolia, only the generic. The nurse said all the insurance companies are doing this.
Next I had my six month skin checkup with my Dermatologist, Dr. Peck. I like her a lot. After the skin examination I always ask her to remove any skin tags and she does. I know insurance doesn’t cover this, but I don’t mind paying. Most dermatologists even have a skin tag “menu,” Removal of tags priced by how many. It’s not expensive. She told me I have beautiful skin. I didn’t take this as describing my face, I took it as overall. I am a moisturizing fanatic and you can tell, my skin is very soft.
Now this is my third and final appointment until September, its for a Colonoscopy. My mother died from Stage IV colon cancer, so I have to get one every five years. Today I am on a liquid diet and starting at 6:00 tonight I have to take 12 large pills with sips of water after each pill, then drink 16 ounces of water every 30 to 40 minutes for the next 3 hours. Tomorrow morning I take another 12 pills the same way followed by the water consumption. My appointment isn’t until 1:00 so I’ll probably be starving.
I don’t dread the procedre because I’m out cold, but I do hate the prep. Last time I had to drink that gallon of prep that I barely got down. When it came to the 2nd gallon I physically couldn’t do it, I started gagging. At that point I got a bottle of Citrate of Magnesia, (which tastes like lemon/lime soda) and drank two of them. This is where my experience as a Pharmacy Tech helped me. Knowing that drinking this has the same effect. This time I asked for the pills. Last time they told me I couldn’t take the pills. This time they said I could. I asked again just to be sure and they said it was ok.
