Finally, Out in the Garden

I got a shot of cortisone in my knee and some Rx anti-inflammatory pills and I’m good to go. I started in the front perennial garden. I’ve been wanting to finish my beer bottle border so that’s the first thing I worked on. Alas my 5 gallon pail of bottles emptied and I needed around 10 more. Of course along with working on the border I did some weeding and cleaning up of dead iris’ and lilies. Unfortunately the most “weeding” I did had to do with removing new grass. When my husband reseeds the yard in the fall, a lot of the seed goes in the flower garden. One good thing is that it pulls up easy and I just throw it back in the yard, hoping it will re-root where its supposed to.

On the following day my husband helped me, (actually he did it) dig up a section of Siberian Iris around the pond. These I had brought down from NY and they took exceptionally well. I put them into pots to give away. A fellow Master Gardener wanted some and we offered some to our neighbor, who was happy to take some. The rest I put out by the mailbox with a sign to take them. This was at 5:00 in the evening. By mid morning they were all gone! Mission accomplished.

It is nice to share plants with others. I have a multitude of lilies than can be dug up and separated, also variegated Liriope. I need my husband to find the time and dig them up for me and I’ll do the same.

A few days later I had more bottles and was able to finish my beer bottle border.
