First Monarch Sighting

Finally I saw my first Monarch butterfly! When we moved here I saw them frequently. Unfortunately throughout the years the sightings are less and less. That’s why I’m committed to planting native perennials that attract all of the pollinators.

This picture was taken in the wildflower garden. He was flitting about the Coreopsis. This particular Monarch appears to be a male, identified by the small black spot, (called an androconial patch) on each hindwing. These are used for releasing pheromones.
