This morning I was looking around out front at all the weeds and work that has to be done out there and foreseeing that it isn’t going to happen anytime soon with temps still in the 90’s. Out of the corner of my eye, I caught site of a yellow finch and saw him perched on top of a coneflower eating away. While I’m enjoying this sight, two more goldfinches planted themselves on top of the same batch of coneflowers.
I then saw what looked like a hummingbird fly up to a branch on the small Japanese maple, in the same garden. I kept my eye on it, knowing it was a hummingbird and wondering what he was feeding on. It sat there for about 5/6 minutes and then swooped down to the salvia where it was feeding. This is the 2nd time that I learned new plants that they liked the nectar from. Last year I observed a hummingbird feeding from a hosta bloom and now salvia.
I quickly forgot about all the work and sat down and watched these birds go about their feeding. There is nothing like watching nature. That site made my day. I wished I could have taken a picture but if I tried to open the window I thought they would fly away so I didn’t. There is no sneaking up on any wildlife when you have MS. I’m way too slow. In the future I want to set up a camera in the garden and around the pond and see what shows up!
The hummingbirds are back at the feeder outside the kitchen window. They’ve been there every day. One even sat on the swing he other day. I bought this hummingbird swing at the garden shop last year and it took over a month, but finally there was success. See the pic below, (not a great pic).
