Memorial Day Weekend, Hot, Hot, Hot!

I have come to the conclusion that I can’t do all the work needed in all the beds I have. I was ahead and now I’m behind. All of the beds were weeded and upon returning to VA, they need to be weeded again. The weather has not been cooperative. Any free time, like yesterday, today and the rest of the week it will be in the 90’s.

Our planting of the vegetable garden is late because P had been traveling. On Saturday we made our way to Lowe’s to get the herbs and vegetables we needed to get into the garden. We got my favorite cherry tomatoes, Super Sweet 100, 3 plants; an Early Girl. a couple of Big Boy, Better Boy and a couple of Celebrity tomatoes. We got 2 red bell and 2 green bell peppers. I’ve noticed that no matter what bell peppers you buy, the color changes the longer you leave them on the vine. We also got 2 Basil’s, a Cilantro and Dill, lastly some Marigolds to plant around the vegetables. Note that the vegetable garden bed still needed to be tilled and new soil and manure put down. P takes care of this. The herb garden is all me.

Last night I came home from volunteering and noticed the herb garden. Where I had weeded and cut down the Rosemary and Chives, where I had torn out most of the Creeping Thyme and cut back the Lavender were all invaded by weeds! I didn’t even go in the house. With my garden lanyard on, dressed nicely and in my new Tom’s slip on sneakers with my hair down, I started pulling up the weeds. When I started it was 85 and humid but there was shade and I thought I could start. Before long the sun came and like the obsessed weed puller that I am, I overdid it and had trouble getting back into the house.

This is when I came to the above stated conclusion
