For the past week my feet are like ice cubes. This is not the first time and it won’t be the last. The temperature outside is in the 90’s with a feels like in the 100’s. I am wearing sneakers with no socks, my usual during the summer. For the past couple of days I have put on below the ankle summer socks with the sneakers and my feet are still cold. The only thing that will warm them up is putting them in warm water or sitting outside in the heat barefoot. Anytime sitting outside in this heat makes my feet swell up like balloons.
All of these things put together causes a conundrum for me. I don’t like the feeling of my feet being in socks and sneakers. It feels strangling and stuffy, like my feet can’t breathe. At bedtime I wear calf high feet warmers that are supposed to be used as slippers. If I wore them as slippers my feet would freeze. I only use them to sleep in and try to keep my feet warm. I convince myself that my feet are warm and then I’m able to fall asleep. They too make my feet feel suffocated and in the morning I can’t wait to take them off.
I typed into the all wise, know everything Google, asking about cold feet and MS, hoping to get some insight or advice on what could alleviate my ice cold feet. Alas, all I found out is that other people with MS experience the same thing. There was no advice or remedies. I have also mentioned this to my neurologist and he takes note but has no solutions.
I would love to hear from other people with MS and how they deal with it, but since no one reads this blog, I’ll cope. It’s really not a big deal all things considered.
So again, this too shall pass.
Hi Barbara, my name is Jamie. I just finished reading this very moving and lovely article in Brain & Life and found your blog!
I’ve read your story on MS & Cold Feet. I have both! MS 23 years in and Cold Feet! Especially my right foot, it’s like a block of ice. I too have asked other MS ers told my neurologist and nothing.
Thankfully I have moments of cold feet. On sunny days, I take shoes off and let my feet get warm. In evening, I put feet on a heating pad. My hubby lets me warm my feet on him!
You wrote that no one reads your blog well, you have one person that just so happened to read this entry, and glad I did!
I look forward to seeing and reading more!
