Perennial Garden

The Gladiola is around the light post surrounded by Sedum. It’s rogue and I thought I pulled out the bulbs but obviously I didn’t get them all, now I just leave it alone. I planted the Liatris, also known as “Blazing Star” or “Gayfeather,” I think two years ago from bulbs. I planted them in the Perennial garden and one in one of the shade gardens, also planted in NC. Because it was two years ago I didn’t think I had any luck. By researching the Wildflower garden, I learned that some perennials take two years to come up. I have tried a few times planting Liatris down here with no results, so I’m thrilled to finally have them. The ones in NC started to come up but never grew the flower, only the green lower leaves. This is another perennial that I now have that is a native plant. It is also a favorite of pollinators like bees and butterflies. The Butterfly Weed is native and just like its name attracts butterflies.

I wanted to take several pictures of the Coneflowers because this year it has really spread and has the most blooms. It is next to the Red Hot Poker and in front and in the back of them I have rogue Cleome’s. These easily reseed from previous years. I actually cut the seed pods off, otherwise they would take over the whole garden. It’s amazing how the leaves look just like pot leaves. Last but not least, the Hydrangea. I took these pictures because of the color of the older flowers compared to the newer flower.
