Using Companion Plants

I previously posted that our vegetable garden is in. What I neglected to note is that for he past two years I have been planting companion plants with the vegetables.

Basil – I have planted Basil in the vegetable garden because it repels mites, aphids, and mosquitos. Basil also has anti fungal properties which repel tomato horn worms.

Marigolds, French and African – exudes a chemical that repels many insects and actually kills nematodes, and parasitic eelworms. These attack the roots of vegetables. I plant six marigolds around the perimeter of the garden.
