The past two days I have been in the garden weeding. I usually get real pleasure from weeding, give me a good root and I’ll dig and tug till I get the sucker! Anyway, I’ve been working on a couple of beds that had some other problems. The first bed had Bee Balm, Beauty Bush,…

Finally the weather has broke and we’ve had a few cooler days. I’ve been able to get out in the garden for a couple of mornings and was able to weed and clean up the front perennial garden. The wiregrass, (which I’m constantly trying to eradicate), again found its way into the garden. I also…

A couple of days had cooled down enough for me to get out in the garden and start weeding. I tell you, if weeds were desirable, I would have the best garden ever! Actually the garden beds themselves aren’t too bad, the weeds are all at the edges of the beds, in between the edging…

I have to say there isn’t too much happening in my garden besides the weeds going crazy. I look out the window longingly wondering when it will be cool enough to tackle some weeding. The temperature is averaging 92 with a heat index of 99 to 102, no rain for over a week. A few…

This morning I went out into the vegetable and herb garden to pick some tomatoes and basil. I tried to get outside while it was still cloudy, we all know how that went. It was 9 am and the sun had just came out, very hot and humid but I set out to do what…

I’m so grateful that I can plant whatever I want here in VA. In NY we had deer and a groundhog. Here my only nemesis is rabbits. I don’t hate them, I think they are very cute. In fact once when I was thinning out the Thyme, I came across a little hole with babies.…

I haven’t been in the garden in a couple of days but I do have some pictures to share of some new bloomers. I also have to comment on the blueberry harvest this year. I have three blueberry bushes on the deck. I had to remove one from the netted cover because the leaves were…

This morning I couldn’t wait to get out in the garden. The past two days the weather has been perfect, afternoon in the 80’s but mornings in the 60’s and low humidity. Again it was 9:30 when I got out, not as early as I would have liked but earlier than my previous times of…

Yesterday I tried to get out early, (9:30) I know that’s not early enough. I knew before I went out that my legs weren’t feeling too strong. I was tired of looking out the window at all the things that needed to be done. I wanted to concentrate on my major perennial bed, (the one…

We are in the middle of a stifling heat wave. Everyday for a week its been in the 90’s. Unfortunately you know that means I am unable to do any work outside. I am pleased to see the Hydrangeas are in full bloom and so is the Lavender, Daisies, and Lamb’s Ear. The Lilies are…
