I had to start with a lyric from my favorite Christmas song, “Happy Christmas, (War is Over).” We started shopping and decorating late because we spent so much time in New York for Thanksgiving. I didn’t put up a tree, we would be leaving for Christmas in two weeks. I did decorate a little, I did the mantle and put some other decorations around.
I didn’t bake, (I’m discouraged because I always start with the best intentions and the result is less than spectacular). I did change my mind when I saw a recipe for nut toffee in Real Simple magazine that I had all the ingredients for. Needless to say, again it didn’t come out the way it looked in the magazine. I’ll just say that it called for butterscotch chips and dark chocolate chips that were supposed to melt on the hot toffee part. Well the butterscotch chips didn’t melt like the chocolate chips, so it looked horrible. I tried several ways to melt them but to no avail, they hardly melted. I didn’t give a lot of it away because it looked bad, so what else, we ate most of it!
Anyway, the weather report looked bad for Thursday and Friday so I felt that the people who would ordinarily leave on those days would be leaving early. I HATE THE TRAFFIC TO AND FROM NEW YORK, so we decided to leave at 4:30 in the morning, which was wonderful. We arrived a little after noon. I would do that again in a minute!
