I had forgotton about the yearly Beatlefest. It had crossed my mind occasionally, but I did nothing about looking it up. I used to to get the mailings yearly telling you the locations and agenda, and also selling Beatle memorabilia and new products. Anyway, these mailngs stopped a few years ago and as I just said, I did nothing to keep informed.
As I was strolling through my iphone’s newsfeed last night, (because of the algorithems of what I liked to read), the Beatlesfest ’24 came up. This year they are bringinng it back to New York City. The first one was held at The Commodore Hotel on 42nd St. I was a teenager, 1974, and I don’t remember who I went with. I remember waiting on the long staircase and a lady had pictures, real pictures of the individual Beatles. I looked at them like they were gold. I was so jealous. I do remember seeing John Lennon there with May Pang. They were in the hallway being interviewed and I was to chicken to approach him.
After that I went maybe twice. It was being held yearly in a hotel in Fort Lee, New Jersey and was a pain in the ass to get there. John took me and he had litle interest, so it was kind of rushed and I couldn’t enjoy it. A few years ago, while I was living here, they held it at the Tarrytown Hilton in Westchester County. I really wanted to go, it was so convenient. Pete didn’t want to drive up for that. I would have gone with my son. You have to go with somebody who would enjoy it and want to experience all that it has to offer after my last experience.
Anyway, this year it is being held in February at the TWA Hotel at JFK. What a great place to have it. According to this article, the hotel is sold out but a neighboring hotel is accepting reservations and there will be transportation to take you to and from the TWA Hotel.
