I’m livid. Pete’s new medical insurance is Anthem. Their specialty pharmacy is BioPlus. On December 23 I received a letter, (see below). It said the transfer of my medications would be seamless, even including one of my medications, Dalfampridine ER 10 mg (generic Ampyra). The letter stated that in the next few weeks someone would contact me and go over my specialty medications and schedule.
No one ever called. The notes are from my repeated calls trying to get this prescription filled. Going on three weeks I have repeatedly spoken to different individuals about getting my prescription. I was told that my past specialty pharmacy, Acredo, was supposed to do a pharmacy to pharmacy transfer. I called Acredo and was told they would do that, gave them BioPlus information they needed.
Next call to BioPlus, said they never received it. I was told that they would call my doctor and get a new prescription so they could fill it. The following week I called back. Again I was told that no one called my doctor. This person, Don, called my doctor, neurologist, while I was on the phone and left message.
I also brought up my other drug, Prolia, which is another specialty medication I get. He also called that doctor while I was on the phone. He stated that now someone would call and schedule the delivery. Phew, I thought finally this was taken care of.
Wrong, again no one called. I called back AGAIN and this time I was told that I needed prior authorization, and I needed to call Anthem , not the pharmacy, first time I heard that. Soooo I contacted my doctor, through the portal. Response was to have BioPlus, send the authorization form to them. Now I need to call Anthem, but it is 4:30 on Friday and office is closed until Monday. Three weeks of this and I’m no closer to getting my prescription.
As an aside, I had my appointment with my Endocrinologist on Tuesday and I’m supposed to be scheduled for the Prolia shot in the next week. I have no idea where that stands.
Meanwhile, Pete looked up the medication on GoodRx and found it at Kroger Pharmacy for 35 dollars with coupon. If it’s that readily available why does it need to be filled at a specialty pharmacy?
Please note in the above letter, printed in bold print, “You don’t need to do anything,” they would handle it all.
