Bird Watching

We have been feeding the birds, one feeder outside the kitchen window, and the suet feeder outside the bedroom window. We have the usual, Tufted Titmouse, House Wren, Yellow Finches, and Northern Cardinals. The suet attracts some others such as, the Red Bellied Woodpecker (seen below), the Bluebird (seen below), and also the finches and Northern Cardinals as well.

Missed Opportunities

There were two Mourning Doves sitting on the grill cover. There was also a male and female Bluebird sitting on top of the shepherds hook. Those were my latest missed opportunities. They were missed because I couldn’t grab my phone in time.

I found a new app put out by the Audubon Society, It is called Merlin Bird ID. It can identify birds either by picture or sound. If you hear a bird and don’t know which one is making the song, just turn it on and it will identify the bird. It is just that easy! Same with taking a picture of the bird, it will then identify the bird. I love it because I can’t always identify the birds from my looking in my reference book, “Birds of Virginia.”
