We’re back from NY. After taking a new route, West of Interstate 95, (our usual), nine hours later we got here around 6:30 last night. Since Bryan’s new home is a bit further West of where we usually are in Westchester County, we decided to take Interstate 84 to 81 and South on 15 to catch 95 in Fredricksburg, VA. Sounded good, only going through 4 states instead of 5. It was much more scenic than 95, lower speed limits and through small towns, yet there were still backups on these roads. Entering 95, the backup was immediate until we got off on our exit, about 1 1/2 hours, bumper to bumper.
It was wonderful to see their new home, I liked it better than I expeccted, even though it is in the middle of bum fuck boonesville. They gave up their bedroom for us, which was very nice. I can’t tell you how nice it was to read Brylee stories, play with her, wake up with her little face in yours. She loved her dollhouse and pink jeep, along with her other presents. There was a lot of singing, she is quite the little star. I also got to see my grandson Victor, home from college for one night.
Friday night was “cousins night” at my cousin Carol’s house in Yorktown. It is always fun but I was a bit ambiviant about seeing my sister. I had decided I wouldn’t even acknowledge her, not even look her way. This is what she decided and I’m fine with it. Also my brother was supposed to be there with his girlfriend, who I like. You never know how he is going to be, he had just sent a horrible text to Bryan 3 days ago. Well he didn’t show, said he was getting over Covid, had tested negative but didn’t feel good enough to come. My cousin Susan from Queens, who I love, but is a big Trump supporter, (no one else in our family is). No talk of politics and we had a nice time. Fun with my cousin Lauren and Jimmy. Great night!
Christmas Eve in Long Island at Pete’s mother’s house. Another fun night. I liked that we did a secret santa instead of buying nine different presents, had to buy only one plus white elephant present. Too many sweets which of course I gouged on for the next three days. Chocolate cake, chocolate bobka, honey balls, cheesecake, chocolate covered blueberries, more cookies than I can name, cannoli’s and other bakery treats.
Unfortunately my daughter Jen didn’t make it. The airfares were too expensive for her. I haven’t seen her in over a year. Her story is another can of worms I’m not ready to deal with.
