Day Tripper – Williamsburg

This past Saturday I made plans with another friend from the garden shop, Stevie. We work together on Wednesday’s and we’ve gotten to know each other. We have different backgrounds but we also have quite a few things in common; (age, politics, divorced moms, religion and of course gardening).

Anyhow, her boyfriend was going away and I suggested spending a day doing something. She asked me if I would like to take a drive to Williamsburg on Saturday, she would drive. I agreed. As the day came closer I was watching the weather and kind of looking for an excuse to cancel, I was having some anxiety as far as maybe P would want to do something and worrying about what to wear. My clothes are very tight and I felt I didn’t have the right clothes to wear. I fretted about putting the wheelchair in her vehicle and projecting that she would find it much too difficult, burdensome to travel with me.

I must say that on Friday, P had off and decided to work, (it was in the 40’s) outside and not care that I stayed at the shop until 4:00, (by not care I mean that I’m usually home by 2 and he never called or texted to see if everything was alright) He stayed out till dark and at that point I was determined to go.

Stevie picked me up in the morning, loaded up the wheelchair and she even asked if I wanted to take the walker so that at some point I could walk. I was thrilled because I wanted to ask but felt it would be too much. Our first stop was the Outlet Mall of Williamsburg, we shopped, the sun came out, (I decided to dress in layers) and it turned into a beautiful day. We went out to lunch at a seafood restaurant and ate at the bar with a very personable bartender. Stevie had a Jameson Mule, which I tasted and liked a lot. I ordered a Jameson Crushed Orange with Triple Sec, and Sprite. It was huge and strong and I drank the whole thing! The lunch was delicious, seafood pot pie. I also used the walker.

From there we went and found a Marshall’s, (our Marshall’s has a better selection). On the way back we went to The New Kent Winery. We had a glass of wine and sat outside. It was about 7:30 when I got home. Of course P was working outside. Again no text or call all day.

It was a great day, we laughed and talked and it felt soooo good. For the first time in a long time I had fun.
