I love this time of year. Everywhere I look I see signs of life. The lilies, iris’s, and clematis are greening up, as are the hydrangeas. The columbine is perking up getting ready to bloom. The goldenrod, and coneflowers are peeking through, even the hosta’s are breaking ground. The first batches of daffodils are in full bloom and five other batches are close. I cleaned up the beds just in time! The cursed Bradford Pear are blooming and the Redbud, Dogwoods, and Magnolia’s are just starting. Some of my Azaleas have nice buds that are getting ready to bloom. While we’re gone the temperature is supposed to go back down to the 20’s during the night. I hope it doesn’t affect any of those buds. Later towards the weekend, the temperature is going to go up again. I don’t want to miss anything.
The other day at Kroger they were selling tulips and hyacinths that had already bloomed for a dollar each! A few weeks before they were 5.99 each. Because the blooms were practically spent they were on clearance. They had a lot of tulips still with buds which I would have gotten if I had someone to make a pretty arrangement for Easter. I didn’t get them because here in VA they don’t come back. I did get four hyacinths which I will put in the ground as soon as I’m done here. I wish I had gotten more, I always feel pressure to hurry up when I’m shopping with my husband. That’s on me.
The botanical gardens plant sale is going on this year in the beginning of May, which I am going to work. I will probably buy some more perennials. Last year I didn’t buy any.
