‘I’m speaking about a stiff neck. This time it started on Monday, just the usual “crick” that I get. I think its from playing games on my iPad and laptop. Tuesday I woke up feeling alot worse. The pain was constant and going down my right shoulder, hard to lift my arm with searing pain through my neck. I started taking an Aleve Back and Shoulder. Going to bed I took 600 mg. of Ibuprofen. Very rough night, had to sleep in one position, couldn’t move without pain. I didn’t go in to the garden on Wednesday, still hard to turn my head or even look up. Next morning Extra Strength Tylenol. Nothing was giving me any relief. I tried a heating pad and later, because I felt my right shoulder was swollen I tried ice. No relief.
Next I went to my leftover prescription pills for pain. I only used at night hoping to get some sleep. First I tried Meloxicam 15 mg. This was prescribed to me for the throbbing pain I get in my left hip. It is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory used for pain, (arthritis, osteoarthritis, inflammation, swelling, stiffness and joint pain). Sounds perfect. If only…. no relief. Next came Oxcarbazepine 150 mg. These were prescirbed to me for episodes of Trigeminal Neuralgia, also for pain. I couldn’t believe that I had no relief from either. Friday I finally went to the doctor. She also saw and felt the swelling and sent me to get x-rays. She called in a prescription for Tramadol 50 mg. This is a controlled substance to be taken every six hours. She told me that at least I would get a good nights sleep. I didn’t, In fact I slept in the recliner so I didn’t have to lay my head down flat. The pain has not let up at all. It’s Saturday and there’s nothing I can do until Monday. I have continued to take it every 6 hours hoping that it just might start to work.
I haven’t gotten the results of the x-rays, so now my mind is wandering, Why aren’t any of these medicines having any effect? Could this be something else? Remember I discussed all my issues with bone pain, could I have bone cancer? I’ll wait for Monday and hopefully get the results and something else to get rid of the pain.
