Hilton Head II – Dining, Shopping and more Complications

Previously I mentioned my feet swelling. I brought 4 pairs of sneakers, one I wore on the drive down. Last minute I bought a pair of sandals just in case my feet swelled up some more. Guess what, they did and that’s all I was able to wear.

Because of the severe pain I was not able to use the walker as much as I wanted to. I was confined to the wheelchair. This bothered me because I was sitting more than I wanted to, even in restaurants where I preferred transitioning to a booth or chair.

Restaurants: We ate very well. One restaurant, The Salty Dog, had no accessible bathrooms. I really had to go. They had two, one I could only use by me holding onto walls, leaving my wheelchair outside and figuring out how to maneuver my way onto the toilet.

It’s amazing to me how many places I run into that are not compliant with the ADA Accessibility Act.

Shopping was only slightly better where we were. Steps into stores made them inaccessible for me.

Worst Complication, my brother attempted suicide while we were there.
