Home Sweet Home

Home to me will always be the lower Hudson Valley in New York. Our trip North went very well. The traffic on 95 wasn’t too bad. We got there early enough to see our granddaughter. I got to see her every day we were there and I am so joyful about that. She is walking, running, talking, some words clearly and some words ???. She is such a beautiful smart little girl!

We stayed at the cottages at Bear Mountain Inn. Upon check-in, the man on duty tried to upgrade us, but it didn’t work out. There are three cottages, round stone buildings that have probably been there since 1935/40. Upon entering there is a round room that is shared by the rooms in a particular cottage, ours was Echo cottage. A beautiful stone fireplace, table and chairs, rustic furniture and a small kitchen. Off of this were the individual rooms, very small but clean and comfortable. The paved paths going to the cottages were a little hard to maneuver with a wheelchair. Outside the cottage was a deck with table and rustic furniture overlooking Lake Hessian. Upon first walking in, it was a little musty but after putting on the AC it was fine.

We arranged for my son and his family to come up and we would all go to the zoo and then the carousel. The night before I was told the zoo was open. After walking down to the zoo, with wheelchair and stroller, quite a hilly walk, we found out the zoo was closed for the next 2 days. We decided to walk down to the dock, which was a very rough wlalk, only again to be told that it was closed. Up we went to the carousel, only to find out upon arriving, that this too was closed for 2 days. Needless to say we were very disappointed.

On the upside, the weather was absolutely gorgeous and the surroundings beautiful. We walked around the lake and our granddaughter ran around the big field. One night we went out to dinner at The Boathouse in Ossining, NY. I enjoyed my time spent there and soon enough we were leaving to go to Long Island to stay with my mother-in-law, yes, the one who never shuts up. Saturday we went to my sister-in-laws campground in the park where Flight 800 went down. Another beautiful day by the ocean with nice people and lots of food. Diet, again, what diet????

That sums up the trip back home. I left out a lot,. Back to VA resentful, weather down here is still in the 90’s.
