I forgot to mention that during my six month neurological visit I discussed two other treatments with him. The first being medical marijuana. I had read that Richmond’s first dispensary was now open and you needed to bring a registered license to get whatever product you need. They had links on how to acquire the license.
First you need to get a Certification letter from a Board of Pharmacy registered practitioner,, (google practitioners that that can write a certification letter) My doctor easily filled one out for the use of Cannabidiol oil or THC-A oil. Then you have to get a current active registration issued by the Board of Pharmacy. There is on-line registration at www.license.dhp.virginia.gov This is for initial applications only. Follow the instructions and there is a fee of $50.00. You also have to scan, fax or email documentation which includes a copy of the written certification, proof of residency, and proof of identity such as a government issued ID card or tax receipt.
Unfortunately I didn’t notice what it was written for until I left. I should have asked about the weed itself. I have searched for specific laws saying that the weed is covered, but found nothing. The only certification available was for the oil based products, so I’m thinking that is all that is legal for use right now in VA. Please correct me of I’m wrong.
The next thing I discussed with him was my fatigue. I have already written how tired I am all the time, spending my afternoons sleeping. We discussed using a drug they used for narcolepsy, which I had already tried and found that it didn’t help, (again, can’t remember the name). He suggested Methylphenidate ER 10 mg., one pill daily. He said this is sometimes used for ADHD, (Attention Deficit Disorder)
I was surprised and eager to take this because I have always thought I had ADHD. I am unable to concentrate on one thing at a time. To study is torture for me. I need to constantly change whatever I’m working on. Gardening is great for this since there are so many different facets I can go to. So is this blog. That’s why I have it sectioned off into 4 things that interest me. I also do crafts which I haven’t even talked about yet. If I get bored creating something, I can easily switch to making something else. Enough about that…….
Back on subject. I started taking Methylphenidate ER 10 mg on Monday and right away it was working. I was tired in the afternoon but not to where my eyes were shutting and I had to lay down. Every day since I have stayed awake all day until bedtime and I fall asleep with no trouble at all. I like the extended release, (ER) since it lasts all day. I feel very good about this.
