On My Own

This morning I heard Maggie clicking around about 4:30. I ignored her and she went back to bed. I ended up waking up around 6. My hips were aching so bad, this happens a lot. I haven’t followed up with the endocrinologist. He had wanted to start me on Prolia, an injection, every six months. He said his office would call and schedule me for the first one, this was in December. They never called and I got an email from them. I went to retrieve the message in the email, and of course I had to sign up for another portal, and another password. That wasn’t good enough. They were going to send me a code to continue. Well they didn’t. This was still in December and I never called them about it. Now I’m not sure I want to be on Prolia, another drug with bad side effects. Another reason is because its very expensive and I haven’t reached my deductible yet. Now onto Maggie.

Yesterday my husband took her out in the morning before he left. I gave her an appetite pill, (she hadn’t been eating), around 12:30 and took her out around 3:30, after she finished her breakfast. We went down the stairs the same way as before, with me on my butt and her falling on top of me. I stayed out with her and was able to see her poop and I knocked ice off of anything I could. When we came in, she fell asleep in her bed and I started a fire, (pressed a button) and reclined on the couch, which I never do, and continued to read my latest book, “Hillbilly Elegy.” That lasted about 5 minutes before my eyes started closing. I grabbed a blanket and gave in and took a nap.

Later in the evening, after she ate all of her dinner, I took her out around 8,8:30. As we were heading down the stairs, she went on my left side, usually she’s on my right. This worked out. I guess she felt secure enough to lean a little on the railing and also on my legs, so we didn’t have to do the butt/fall method. Yeah! I stayed out with her in the dark and I felt good that we’ve been able to handle this situation, which I was so afraid of. ( As an aside, when I am outside I use my wheeled walker).

This is my first full day alone with Maggie. When I got up I got dressed right away because I knew she would have to go out. She slept until 8 and didn’t want to go out for another 1/2 hour. We tried the same way as last night, with her on the left, and again it worked. I do have the leash on her until we get to the bottom. If I didn’t have the leash she wouldn’t go down. I haven’t used the new harness because she doesn’t seem to be able to walk in it.

I stayed out with her for awhile and enjoyed being outside and listening to the birds even though it was cold. I never do this! I usually get up between 7/7:30, put on my robe, have coffee and read the paper and don’t get up again till 8:30 and eat breakfast. It felt so good to break my habit. With my husband always taking her out, I stay lazy. Needless to say, after my 2 miles on the bike, right before I started this entry, I could have gone back to bed and I still can.

Anyway I’m proud of myself by being able to handle my girl, breaking routine, and spending more time outside then usual.
