Pool Lift

A couple of weeks ago, (4th of July week) we stayed at our home in Wilmington, North Carolina. We were on a mission to buy furniture. I wanted to spend time in the pool. Needless to say, all week was spent furniture shopping. On Friday, (we were leaving the next day) I finally got to go to the pool.

It is a large saltwater pool with a wide sloped access to get into the water. There are no railings. The pool is 4’ at its deepest and there are 3 ladders available to get into the pool. I thought I could get in this way, but it wasn’t working, I got too nervous and you know that everyone’s watching you, which makes me more nervous, (I was in the wheelchair).

Similar to the one I used

There was also a pool lift, which I’ve never used. I was determined to get into the water so we tried it out. It was very easy to get into the seat from the wheelchair and Pete was able to operate it and raise it up and over the water and then down into the pool. I was very relaxed and happy. I spent the next 2 hours in the pool!

I have seen the pool lifts at pools before but never felt the need, you know, “I can do it on my own,” choosing my stubbornness over ease. From now on I won’t hesitate to use the lift. I will use the steps and railings if available. Ideally it would be great if I could operate the pool lift on my own.
