As I was flicking through channels last week I came across, QVC. They were featuring an iRobot i7 + WiFi Self Emptying Robotic Vacuum, that you control using your phone. The price was $399. w/free S&H. I quickly went on Amazon to check the price and the same one was 699. I knew it was a very good buy because I have wanted one but thought the price was too high. I ordered it.
My plan was to get it, open it, have it all charged and the house vacuumed before P even knew what I did. That plan went to hell because we have Ring, doorbell camera. He got the alert and googled the part # which was on the box and next thing I got was a text from him stating that we got a Roomba. After struggling to get the box inside, (it was very heavy) and opening everything, downloading app, and setting it up, it all was blown! I was so mad.
Anyway, I hit a snag setting it up and getting it online. I identified and chose our internet connection and the next step was syncing it with my phone. It kept coming up that it couldn’t locate the Roomba. I tried and tried to no avail. Me and electronics yet again! When P came home I proceeded to tell him about the problem. Turns out I pressed the wrong model #. As soon as I changed to the right model, everything worked. Well I had had enough of it for the day and thought I would revisit it the next day.
The following day I was volunteering at the garden and when I came home P had the thing working and was programming it. He had the day off, again, and took over my project. What a can of worms did that open. He became obsessed with the mapping of rooms and for the next three days he spent hours and hours getting the thing to map correctly. He would lock it in a room until it mapped the room right. It was going constantly. Is this how all engineers are? He went out to change the oil and kept it going. I swear the thing started following me around. I couldn’t stand it, there is no button to simply press, “go home.” It went to the base to empty and recharge and then it would start again. I guess I’ll have to read the book.
It amazes me that vacuum got more attention in three days than I’ve gotten in a month. Not really, this is just who he is.
