I’m obsessed. While listening to the radio Sirus XM, Classic Rock, “The Dark Side of the Moon” came on. This is the version where a woman is doing the vocals, not singing, just using her voice going along with the music. I love it! Honestly I thought it had to be a black woman. I have never heard a white woman do that. I had to know who it was.
It’s so easy these days, Google it! Her name is Clare Torry and she is an English artist and white. Apparently she became one of the world’s most popular singers. This is a direct quote “she is well known for writing and performing the wordless vocals on the song, “The Great Gig in the Sky” by the group Pink Floyd on their 1973 album, “The Dark Side of the Moon.” So I learned a lot; who she is and that the song has its own name.
I have a history with this album. I was in high school when it came out and the music is one of the soundtracks of my teen years. We listened to it on an eight track tape, (boy am I old!) I did own the album. Anyway…. I was going out with a guy named Paul, who had a van, and we would go down to Peekskill River, get high and drink beer listening to this album. A great album to smoke a joint and listen too.
