We, meaning all Americans, are having a serious crisis. I feel like I am living in two different societies. One is the politically usual, meaning operating as we always have, under one (hopefully) unifying President and lawmakers, again hopefully working for our concerns. This means compromise by both parties to try and get things done.
This isn’t perfect, it never has been. Many missteps including our quick exit from Afghanistan and the steady influx of immigrants from South America. There are ongoing daily problems that we can all agree on like inflation, gas prices, spread of disease, and severe weather changes that are the consequences of global warming, (not everyone agrees on that one).
While all this is going on, there is an alternate United States, operating separately. The deniers of the 2020 election. Many citizens believe that the election was stolen from Donald Trump. There are many who believe in conspiracy theories, many are white supremacists, that are included in this alternate United States. There are rampant believers in white replacement theory. Books are being banned, teachers are being told what they can and cannot teach.
I am worried deeply about all elections moving forward. Right now the battle for who will be running in the midterms are going on within the Republican party. In many states the conspiracy believers and election deniers are winning. In some elections, they have already stated that if they don’t win, (just like Trump did), its because of cheating. Next will be the midterms coming up in November.
I don’t have the answers and this keeps me up at night. I’m worried about democracy and the end of the United States of America. I get physically ill when I think about what’s going on. I naively think, “Why can’t we all just get along”
Hi, Barbara. The news and trends have got me down, too. It’s like, hey, we don’t have enough to worry about with our MS, and you just look at the news and so much ugliness!
I live in Maryland, diagnosed late 2014.
The news has definitely addded stress that I don’t need. How are you coping with your MS?
I am 8 years in and seeing steady decline, unfortunately. I think it’s great that you’re able to do so much gardening. These days I can only do a few containers on the porch, but I enjoy it.
Hi Nicole, What type of MS were you diagnosed with? If you don’t mind me asking, how old are you, and are you on any medications that delay the progress?
Do you go to an MS Center or a neurologist? Containers can be fulfilling too! I’ve grown tomatoes in containers with success. I also like to grow herbs in containers
on the deck so I don’t have to go in the garden when I use for cooking. Herbs are fun to incorporate into cocktails too. By the way, just have to say I am not a drinker,
but occasionally its nice to have a drink with friends.
