Herb Garden

My herb garden gets the least attention. Since herbs thrive in full sun and don’t need to be mulched, they can easily be ignored……….. for awhile. I do go in a couple of times a year to weed and thin out or cut back. This year I’m giving it more attention than normal. The Thyme had really taken over so in the fall I pulled out 3/4 of it and left a small corner. I also cut a large section of the Rosemary out, as that too was taking over. The other day I went in and cut back some of the Lavender. The Chives look great and the Greek Oregano does too, although some of the roots are showing. A couple of years ago I accented the herbs with river rock coming off off a large hummingbird stone.

Our neighbor has a large Pin Oak and a Lob Lolly pine overlooking the part of the property where my herb garden is. They make quite a mess. Tons of pine needles and tiny acorns and little leaves dump down on the herbs. I clean it all out. Now that I have it cleaned out, I will remove the river rocks and put down a good layer of garden soil, replace the rocks, and finally buy my annual herbs. My usual is of course, always Basil and Dill. This year I need a new Parsley and Cilantro and whatever else I see that I might want to add. Yes, I do want to add two more Lavenders.
