The Peonies, Azaleas, Iris, and Columbine are done. The roses initial bloom has since lessened. Blooming right now are one of my favorite perennials, Foxglove. I feel so fortunate to have them come back, so far for the past 7 years. The Astilbe is also blooming. I planted some Alstromeria and it is still blooming but I planted it in a hurry since we were going away. It is in a place where it gets the required sunlight but the soil isn’t the greatest and it’s not mulched. The Hydrangea’s are just starting to bloom. I won’t take pictures until they are in full bloom.
Right now I need to go out into the garden and deadhead the roses, (7 bushes in all). I need to improve the soil and mulch around the new Alstromeria. I planted quite a few Sunflowers and only see maybe 5 coming up which is very disappointing. It’s getting late to plant anything, I have a Canna I want to put in a pot on the deck. I did plant last years Canna’s and Dahlia bulbs, but so far there is no sign of any life. The major problem for me right now is the outside temperature. Since we’ve returned it has been in the 90’s, yesterday 96. No need to tell you I can’t work in that heat. Besides the main point of how the heat affects my MS symptoms, most “normal” people wouldn’t work in that heat either. Except for my husband, The “machine” is at it again, he is out there replacing wood borders on the driveway.
